“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last for ever” 1 Corinthians 9 : 24 & 25

Discovery Club
Cwm Ifor Primary School 2006

SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND

Discovery club at Cwm Ifor primary school started way back in September 2004. A Friday lunch time club met weekly to study the ALF (About Life & Faith) & Get Active resources. The response from the school, the children and the parents was most encouraging, so it was agreed to make the club a regular extra curricular event. In the first year we held 33 lunch time sessions. Twenty children attended with seven leaders helping out.

Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit”

The sessions are based on a series of memory cards which take us through the purpose and plans God has for mankind. We have learnt much about how God wants us to have a loving relationship with Him and how He sent His son Jesus to make this possible.
At Easter we held an exhibition at the school which gave parents the opportunity to look at the children’s work and meet with us.
Our Get Active material was introduced in the summer term where the weather allowed us to play sport and learn more about how God is interested in everything we do, whether it be work or play.

Following on from the success of year one decisions had to be made about September 2005 and a new school year. The support from volunteers at Bethel to act as Leaders has been first class and this has allowed us to extend our clubs in the school.

Our first year group now meets on a Monday after school from 3.10—4.00 and a new group of children meet with us at our regular Friday lunch time sessions.
It is great to see growth in these areas.
Our second year syllabus has concentrated on the title, “What is a Christian?” and we have used the following template for our studies

praying hands
PRAYER PARTNERS
It became fairly clear to us from an early stage that we needed to secure the backing of a group of people who were prepared to pray through our sessions each week. It has been a lesson to us to recognise how much prayer we have needed in order to make progress. We only operate two extra curricular sessions but we would have been powerless without these people committing themselves to prayer.
THANK YOU PRAYER PARTNERS

Your choice
There is much confusion today concerning the term “Christian”. Hopefully this acronym will provide a basic job description.
The vital ingredient is placed right at the top of the list—CHOICE
The CHOICE to become a Christian is a life
changing decision, but it is a CHOICE and it is a CHOICE we all have to make.

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

C = CHOICE
H = HONEST
R = RELIABLE
I = INTEGRITY
S = STEADFAST
T = TRAINED
I = IMITATE CHRIST
A = ATTITUDE
N = NEW LIFE

Even Jesus had to make choices as the puzzle below reminds us.
